Contrary to some rumors that have been circulating, the wall has not been torn down. The building next to the park was damaged by fire and has since been torn down and removed. Extra support is being added to the wall but the fence has been removed and the main part of the park is open.
Although we don't have a firm timeline for completion of the project, we anticipate it will be completed in time for this year's Standin' on the Corner Park Festival, to be held September 28th and 29th, 2007.

Standing on the Corner, cool. Something for the Low to look forward to every year. And for those of us who have moved away, a good time to comeback and see family and old friends, homie's and all. With roots still attached.

Not many comments here, anyway I think the 2007 event was a disaster for the city. You pulled everything away from downtown, and pretty much destroyed the theme by doing so. Lots of complaints from locals as well as visitors.
Oct.13,2007 Thanks to Menu at Bobos we were able to get visit this great mural that was imspired by one of the most favorite bands of my high school days great and memorable stops on Route 66 road trip and lucky for us the little Red wagon didn't break down i shutter to think of what kind of song lyrics we wouldn't be able to make had that happened. Have great memories of standing on the corner.thanks Abbie and Denny in Calif.
Well, I want to thank all who have contributed to this wonderful icon to freedome of spirit and music. I have been here and took pictures. I belive this place is on the verge of exploding with people as the boomers start reaching retirement age and go searching for what they had some years ago.
You should have some more music inspired events... maybe some band's or OMB's play there from time to time. (Like me)
Forget the local politics and nay sayers... we like having a western rock in roll hall of fame! Keep up the good work!!!

Hi: I was in Winslow and it was good to visit the park. PErhaps you'd like to read my post about it: On the corner.
Hi to all
I had to revisit Winslow in October 2007 with my wife to relive the day I did with my best budy 30 years ago whilst doing a driveaway from Houston to San Francisco. We stopped off and stood on a corner (Don't know which one)to see a if a girl in a .......... slowed down to take a look? (She didn't) On our visit last year we met one of the local native people who showed us where the park was and even invited us to a celebration at the reservation (we declined the offer as we were heading off on 66) Unfortunately my Buddy died in Dec 07 without reliving his wish to return so we have just donated a brick in his memory.

I think this is one of the coolest things I have ever seen! KUDOS to Winslow! I am from Frederick,MD (DC/Baltimore Area)and passed through Winslow in the early 1990's and I proud to have been there. I am looking forward to another visit and this park will be on my "must see" list!

Loved our visit to the famous corner in Winslow. The ladies from Dominique's gift shop treated us to a special time where they played the Eagles song, "Take it Easy". Can't wait to wear our T shirts, show our pictures and tell our stories of this special day.

I hope all vistors to the park know there is "Official Standin On The Corner Merchandise that is sold by the Standin' On the Corner Foundation" its available at the stores by the park. All merchandise that says Standin' should only be from the foundation. So make sure you ask before you buy.
The comment of the merchandise should have read "Standin' On THE Corner Merchandise not just Standin" ..... sorry for the mistake
A neat little park. We really enjoyed our visit. It was like a step back in time; the flat-bed track and the music playing just made it perfect.
We stopped by the park late in the day on May 7, 2008. We were traveling Route 66, and this was a must see for my husband, Dean, and me. We are late boomers, so "Take It Easy" was an integral part of our teen years.
We were glad to see that there was no fire damage evident on the mural. And the period Ford truck that's been added was great. The blog of our trip is at http://route66vegastrip.blogspot.com/ if you're interested.
It's encouraging to see that Winslow has found a way to revitalize downtown and save its history. Good for you!
just been there-with the grand train tour. took some good pictures
We Stooped by On Friday July 4th, 2008 and had a blast! After a long trip this was the highlight. My kids are now singing the song all the time and telling all their friends.
My wife and I visited the park July17. The Rt 66 main street is pretty torn up but the mural, statue and truck are fine. A beautiful tribute. Jo-Jo's diner down the street is great too.

I lived in Winslow 20 yrs ago, I work with a lady whom lives for the Eagles, they will be in San Antonio in Sept she is so going, I found this web site, and for her birthday I put this all over her computer @ work, she didn't think it was real so I emailed her the web site, so if I ever go back I will be bringing a guest whom wants to see the hard work you have done, Good Job!!!! San Angelo TX
Went there with the family in August 2008. It's a shame but the place is like a dump. The back of the wall is supported by a breeze block construction and the "park" at the back is fenced off because a notice says it is dangerous. If you go and are disappointed too - take the short drive to La Posada hotel. It's wonderful and will make up for the anti-climax
I attended the festival this year for the 8th time. I really enjoyed it when the festival was actually close to the park, and you could wander in and out of the local shops. For the past two years it's been at the west end of town in a big dirt lot next to the railroad tracks. To be honest, it really sucks now. I don't intend on coming back again.
Keep up the good work.
In reply to the person who said the place looked like a dump with the fence around the lot behind the corner park. That fence is down now and open to the public and has some beautiful grass in it. That park is soon to become Winslow Route 66 Plaza! Neon signs, stage that will like like an old drive in movie, benches, murals on the back of the wall etc. Hope you will come back and visit when this park is completed.
To the comment of the festival in a big dirt lot! The corner park foundation loved the festival downtown also. As years went by the festival became bigger and the downtown area could not accommodate the crowd anymore and we were forced to find a bigger place. After careful consideration with the city officials and the foundation it was a safety factor. The crowd being stuffed in the area shoulder to shoulder created a problem if an emergency would occur it would have been difficult to get in emergency vechile's or any security personal to secure a problem. We are happy to announce that next year there are plans in action to develop the new area with a new look of a real park and festival area. I hope you will come back one more time and see the new look. The shops are only a short walk along the beautiful first street park.

Was in Winslow in mid-March and found it quite delightful. After taking turns snapping photos of each other "standing on the corner", we were approached by a police officer who offered to snap one of both of us together...thank you, chief of police!!
Also had lunch at La Posada, excellent meal and quite a cool hotel to be able to wander through and see the rooms and which famous people stayed there.
So, I loved Winslow!!

I had the pleasure of performing at last years event with the Hard Knox band to close the show on Friday night. The folks who put on this event did a fantastic job and treated us with the utmost respect!
I am honored to be performing again this year with my band, 74th Street and we are very excited to attend, not only as performers, but as fans of the Eagles, Hotel California and Winslow!!
I love Winslow!! I grew up there, I now live in Phoenix. Most of my family lives in Winslow, and I love going back to visit them, for special occasions, but most of all I love visiting Winslow, becuase of the history of the town, Im proud to be from Winslow, and I enjoy going to the Standin on the corner festival, I went last year for the first time and had a Blast!! Ill be going back this year, and I can't wait!!!
I was born and raised for 13 years in Winslow AZ. My maiden name is Ellis. My family was well known back in the day. Dad was Hubert Ellis, worked for the Santa Fe railroad for 42 years and retired. He was an Elk at the Elk's lodge. My mom Mary was a Rebekkah and the adviser for the Theta Rho girls club. When she died in 86' we were forced to move away, and I have missed all of my friends and the place since then! I am trying to plan to go to the festival this month and hope that I can make it!
20 September 2009 --
Drove through Winslow today. Wouldn't ya know it -- NEXT weekend is the Standin' On A Corner Festival, just my luck.

I enjoyed my visit to the city.
Peace.
